Meet Sue Ellen, another exceptionally inspirational client of mine.
Sue Ellen was in a very, very dark place for a long time. After a work injury had left her unable to work properly, and very sore. She was very depressed, did not feel worth anything. She wanted to hide from the world, and to be frank – ready to quit on life!
I’ve always made an effort to donate to a few charities a year, and they always involve women or children. Happily, a few years ago, Sue Ellen was practically dragged by a friend to a high tea charity day. Guess what she won, and went home with?? A voucher to come in for a makeover photo session with me 😀
I received a very nervous phone call from Sue Ellen saying she’d won the prize. She wasn’t sure a photo session was for her because she’s not photogenic etc. Immediately, I go into my mode, I love a challenge so when people tell me they’re not photogenic. I want to prove to them that they are.
She felt calmer after chatting to me for 10 minutes. We agreed on a day, and I promised her she would love the experience. And if she didn’t, then at least she did it.
A bundle of nerves when she came in, it didn’t take long for her to relax. I tend to have that effect on people. I think it’s because I trip over words so much that they think they can’t be as bad as me! LOL..
Once the hair and makeup stylist finished, Sue Ellen could not believe the lady looking back at her. She was absolutely gob smacked. From there, I could already see the confidence starting to emerge. I couldn’t wait to start the session.
When we started shooting, it was like a different woman was in front of my camera. She couldn’t stop asking to see the back of the camera. So many times she said “I don’t know how you’ve put someone else’s picture in the back of the camera like that, because that can’t be me!”
When we finished, Sue Ellen had definitely transformed. This photo shoot was literally going to save her life. I had chills.
A week later when she and her husband came back to look through all the photos. He stopped and said to me “How much for ALL of them? I don’t know what you did to my wife. I haven’t seen her this happy in so long.” Again, I got chills.
They left with a LOT of photos, and I was happy. Happy that I had a huge sale, yes, but more happy that I had literally changed someones life. This job is so rewarding, in so many ways.
About 6 months later, I received a call from Sue Ellen. She just wanted to ring to tell me what she had been doing since we last spoke. Apparently she had so much confidence after seeing her photos, and after a little encouragement from hubby, she submitted a few of her images to a talent agency. She started getting calls to work. And now I’m so happy to say she has had extra work, modelling work, is now off workers compensation, and living life to the fullest.
Such an inspirational, happy and bubbly lady. You would never know how dark a time she went through not so long ago..
I used to think I just pressed a button. I knew there was more to it technically than that. But to literally change someone’s life. That is why I love what I do. This is such an experience for women and something that is so confident-building, empowering, and definitely life-changing!
Such a dramatic outcome from what I thought was just a great photoshoot. If she hadn’t stepped in front of my camera, where would she be now?
