Are you ready to learn how to pose for photos? Not a professional photo, just the snaps that are taken by others and then you end up cringing at the result.
Tip #1- Turtle Neck!
This sounds weird, and most people laugh at me when I say it to them, but it works!!
To avoid being photographed with a double chin when you didn’t even realise you had one. This is a 2 part process.
You need to pretend someone has a piece of string attached to your head, and they pull it up. Next, while your head is up, stretch your neck out like a turtle, leading with your forehead. If it feels really weird, you’re doing it right. DO NOT do this if someone is taking a side photo of you.
Tip #2- Closer = bigger
This one is important for all those who want to lose a few pounds, or gain a few, without even trying.
What is closest to the camera appears bigger. And consequently, what is furtherest from the camera appears smaller. For example, if you want to enhance your rear, stick your hip towards the camera. Want the opposite effect? Put your leg backwards. I’m attaching a video for this one as I think my explaining is not the best!
Tip #3- Hands! What do I do with my hands??
This is such a common question. And do you know how many people ask me that, thinking that they’re the only ones. They are most definitely not!
One rule to remember is to check where your hands are pointing. This is where the viewers eye will be drawn to. Is it somewhere you want them to look?
Don’t worry if it sounds confusing, I will have photos for all these poses following this.
Good things to do with hands is thumbs in front pockets (works well for guys and sometime ladies depending on clothing). Put your hand on your hip, in a non threatening way, unless you’re going for a different look. Then you can put your other hand on your thigh and pull it backwards so your elbow is tucked into your waist. Arms folded, low and not pushed all together.
If sitting, rest elbow on knee or arm of chair and place hand just under chin. Hand on someone else’s hand/ arm/ or even leg depending on your relationship! Or just plain – hold something like a child, book, flower etc… Whatever you do, keep it natural looking, or it will look worse than if your arms were just dangling beside you.

And to top off my how to pose for photos tips. One more quick tip, go and check yourself out in the mirror. The best models are the most vain, they know how they look best.
What’s your best side? Did you know 65-80% of the time, the left side is the best side of peoples faces.
Happy snapping 🙂
