Amanda is an amputee woman over the age of 40. And I had the pleasure of having this inspirational woman come in to my studio for a makeover session. Something she had always wanted to do, but never felt like the time was right. I am so happy she finally came in, as we had such a fun time. I learnt so much about her and how undervalued people in the disabled community are after a certain age.
Amanda is a strong woman, practitioner 0f Ho’oponopono and Lomi Lomi
International best selling author, published co-author, over 40’s loving mum, a superstar disability advocate. This amazing lady is also an amputee after losing her leg at age of 7.
To say that the challenges she’s faced has her stronger, and more determined to make a difference is an understatement. Amanda was definitely one of those women who was put on this earth to inspire others, and especially other women out there.
Amanda became an amputee at the age of 7. She grew up through the most difficult part of most kids’ lives, teens, feeling different. Remember how awkward those early teen years are, add being different on top of that!
“I always felt left out. Different, not good enough. People kept telling me what I could and could not do. Never letting me be myself. I knew I needed to hold my head up and move forward and every time I got knocked down I stood back up and kept going knowing I needed to take one step forward.”
What makes you unique?
“I have an unhealthy obsession with shoes. Due to my disability when I was younger, I only ever had one pair of shoes. White Mary Janes that needed special built up soles to help me walk. After the amputation, and as I hit my 20’s I became obsessed with all the beautiful shoes out there. I have quite the collection now. I am always told that I have too many shoes. But when you have had to wear the same pair for so many years and then had to wear certain shoes as you relearnt to walk. To have a sparkly red pair now is just pure joy.”
What is the one thing you would love to say to your 18 year old self?
“Stop worrying what every one else thinks and find your own flow. I was always so concerned with everybody else’s thoughts of me. I didn’t enjoy myself as I should have nor explore life the way I wanted to.”
